Ashfield Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Jason Zadrozny, fights landfill
Local Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Jason Zadrozny, is fighting to stop Labour's plans to transform the old Bentinck Colliery site in to one of Europe's largest landfills.
Jason said;
"Like me, you are probably worried about Labour's plans to dump one of Europe's largest rubbish tips on our doorsteps".
"Just think about the affect it will have on our local area. Not only will there be the noise, smells and gases associated with a rubbish dump, but all those extra lorries bringing rubbish from all over the region along local roads".
"Everyone knew that if Labour won the County Council elections again on June 4th it would be seen as a green light to press on with their plans to turn The Bentinck Void into a landfill site. That's why Labour lost five of Ashfield and Eastwood's eight County seats to the Liberal Democrats".
"However, the new Conservative administration are no better. They have voted with Labour at County Hall to press on with the landfill site. Here in Ashfield, the Conservatives and their allies, the independents, voted Labour back in power against the wishes of local residents".
"The Liberal Democrats have a track record of standing up for local people against these plans. I have been an active anti-landfill campaigner for many years. When the Liberal Democrats and I led the District Council, we allocated an extra £100,000 for a fighting fund to stop the plans".
"The people of Ashfield have been dumped on long enough and it needs to stop".
Jason Zadrozny's concerns are also echoed by the Liberal Democrat Party at a National Level who have stated that if they get in to Government:
"We will scrap the 'Whitehall knows best' rules and targets that mess up and delay local decisions about key local issues. Local people will be set free to make key decisions about their area and about improving local services, with real powers and responsibilities devolved to local communities and their councils".
