Jason Zadrozny to fight Tory led County Council cuts

November 5, 2009 7:00 PM

Jason Zadrozny Nottinghamshire County Council DemonstrationJason Zadrozny attended a full County Council meeting today following a leak to the Nottingham Evening Post that Tory bosses are making savage cuts to front line services across Nottinghamshire, to the value of £33 million.

Up to 475 jobs and services will be lost in Kay Cutts Tory led County Council, mainly in the basic front line service areas.

During the lunch time recess at County Hall hundreds of council workers were outside venting their anger at the Tory plans in a mass demonstration.

Jason Zadrozny stood before the angry workers and pledged that he and the Liberal Democrats would speak up for all those that work for the council and all those affected by the Tory service cuts. Jason said he would fight the Tories on their plans and try to restore order and public confidence in Nottinghamshire "Only in Kay Cutts' Tory Administration does the Sheriff of Nottingham win over Robin Hood".

Jason went on to say " Conservative bosses at County Hall must not be allowed to slash the services that will hot the most vulnerable in Nottinghamshire".

While Jason and the Liberal Democrats gave their pledge to stop the axe falling on our vital services, the Tories and their 'Independent' allies refused to face the crowds.

The Tory cuts will also see plans to sell off all residential care homes for our elderly and close day care centres.

Other services that will be affected include axing the Dial a Ride service, increasing the cost of 'meals on wheels', cuts to children's services, the closing of three household waste recycling centres, introducing a charge for residential parking permits, limiting the gritting service on icy roads, and bringing in self service libraries.

Jason questioned the Tories on their library cuts asking them what these meant to small libraries and the communities they serve. After some deliberation Jason forced the Tories to acknowledge the importance of libraries and assure everyone they will not axe any libraries no matter how small.

Jason commented that the Tories proposals to axe local authority care homes is another example of Tory Terror stating "as far as the Conservatives are concerned; Homes are where the Heartless is" and he would carry on fight for the most frail and vulnerable in our society.
