MORE than 43,000 low income families were refused crisis loans in the East Midlands last year, according to figures provided by Liberal Democrats.
The Government turned the pensioners and poor families down as applications rose by 27% to 112,390, says the party.
Coun Jason Zadrozny, prospective Ashfield MP and leader of Ashfield District Council, said: "People who apply for crisis loans are desperate and have nowhere else to turn.''
