Liberal Democrats BIGGEST Group on Council

1.47.28pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 14th May 2007

Following the may 3rd elections the Liberal Democrats are now the largest group on Ashfield District Council. This is a huge blow for the Labour Party who have held the Council since its creation in 1974.

Since the election group leader Councillor Jason Zadrozny is very pleased to announce that Councillor Rachel Madden, formerly an Independent Councillor has joined the Liberal Democrat Group.

Cllr Rachel Madden said: " I Have thought long and hard about what I seek to achieve as both a member of a political party and also as a councillor, and have made the decision to join the Liberal Democrats.

The Liberal Democrats locally are full of fresh ideas and want to work hard to make our areas better for our communities. They are moving forward and growing with strength and determination. They have innovative ideas for our council and are the only party who truly cares about the best future for the people of Ashfield.

The Liberal Democrats have sound ideas with people at it's heart and I am pleased that I have been accepted by the party and look forward to working with them and the people of Kirkby for a brighter, prosperous future."

Cllr Jason Zadrozny, welcoming Cllr Madden to the Liberal Democrats:

"I am delighted to welcome Rachel to the party, I know she will continue to do her best for the people of Kirkby as a councillor. It's never easy to move once elected and start afresh but many people across Ashfield recognise that Rachel has made a considered choice and has the very best interests of the people of Kirkby Central at heart.

The ten Ashfield District Councillors are:

Cllr Lee Cooper - Sutton North

Cllr Michael Mullaney - Sutton North

Cllr Jason Zadrozny - Sutton North

Cllr Rachel Madden - Kirkby Central

Cllr Helen Smith - Woodhouse

Cllr Tony Theaker - Woodhouse

Cllr Louise Bradshaw - Hucknall West

Cllr Austin Rathe - Hucknall West
