Praise for unsung community heroes1.18.55am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 25th Jul 2007
KIND-HEARTED Ashfield volunteers Ann Patrick, left, and Olive Parkes receive special praise from Ashfield District Council leader Jason Zadrozny during a ceremony to honour good citizens across the district. As part of the countywide event at Rufford Abbey on 21st July, Ann and Olive received special praise and recognition for their tireless work to improve community facilities across Stanton Hill, Skegby and Teversal. The pair have devoted countless hours on a range of different youth and community projects in recent years and have been influential in organising fun days, arts, sports and drama workshops and improving playground facilities across Ashfield. Speaking after the ceremony, Coun Zadrozny paid tribute to the hard-working pair for their contributions to good causes in Ashfield. Said Coun Zadrozny: "I am delighted to have been able to recognise the massive amounts of work that these two women do in our local communities. "So many people give time, money and effort into helping people and groups achieve more, and deciding who to reward this time was a tough choice. "The reason I chose both of them in the end came down to the massive amounts of work that they both do for children and young people from Skegby, Stanton Hill, Teversal and Sutton, an area particularly close to my heart. "They both truly deserve to be recognised and it is about time that many of our unsung heroes from Ashfield - of which there are many begin to receive the thanks they really do deserve."
