Millions of pounds of investment were drawn up by Liberal Democrat Councillors. Plans included revitalising the Civic Square and altering the road layout to reduce the traffic problems in the town. £2 million of European money was secured by Cllr Jason Zadrozny, but nobody knows where this money will go now as the plans have been dropped.

There was also a scheme agreed for a new Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre with private money to pay for it. The plans have not been followed up by Labour and the new Swimming Poll and Leisure Centre have been specifically ruled out by the Labour Council. "This is a great shame," said Jason. "Labour and their Tory / Independent allies will now need to explain why they have let all this investment in

our area go down the pan."

The future of our Town Centres is of vital importance, if Ashfield and Eastwood are to be viable places to work and shop in the future we need to put plans in place now. As soon as the recession ends we need to be ready to pounce and be able to draw down inward investment from good companies and employers.

Doing nothing is not an option. We need action now, not more broken promises.
