Jason Zadrozny on crime and hate crimes.10.00.00pm GMT Sun 15th Nov 2009
Jason Zadrozny spoke live on the BBC Politics show on Sunday 15th November 2009. The topic was crime and particularly hate crimes. This is in response to several restaurant owners in Huthwaite having been racially abused and their request for more help from the authorities on what is a growing problem. Jason commented that across Ashfield crime is the major issue that really affect peoples lives. Violent and hate crimes need to be tackled urgently before our streets become a 'no go' area. The residents of Ashfield have been failed when it comes to crime. The current Labour administration is cutting back on the warden service that is already undermanned, with seven vacancies. At at time when people are demanding that they feel safe in their homes this vital service should be protected. Labour in Ashfield District are soft on crime and are willing to see a visible protective presence on local streets cut back. The fear of not feeling safe in our own streets, parks and town centres has allowed the BNP to try and fill the void left by Labour. They form a blame culture that is inaccurate, malicious and fueled by hate. Extreme right-winged parties such as the BNP are praying on peoples fears within Ashfield and Eastwood. Labour have failed by not tackling the BNP. Certainly when the Liberal Democrats are communicating with the People of Ashfield and Eastwood through our literature and on the door step we are not only saying to them why it is good reason to vote Liberal Democrat but also why it is a bad reason to vote BNP. When you take the fear and blame culture away people can see the reality. Local voters are wise and when presented with the full facts most do not agree with what the BNP stand for. The Liberal Democrats are tackling these extremists. Since 2006 the Liberal Democrats have fought the BNP at the ballot box and beaten them because we directly campaign against them and their extreme views and policies. We welcome all parties to work with us and tackle the BNP and other extreme right-wing parties. We believe in hope not hate.
